Make_PE3 Program to Create Portable Windows 7 PE

$

There are better WinPE's with more drivers and support for UEFI booting now available.

Go direct to new description including Win10 PE and Win8.1SE

=============================================================================================

*** Make_PE3 Program to Create Portable Windows 7 PE ***

Make_PE3 can be used in Windows 8/7/XP Multi-Boot environment
Source can be fresh installed Win7 SP0 without Updates or Win7 DVD SP0 or SP1 - x86 or x64 versions

AIK_Tools folder in Make_PE3 is the place where used tools as Dism.exe and imagex.exe and oscdimg.exe are collected.

Without AIK you can use Make_PE3 to make in about 4 minutes 7pe_x86.iso
from Winre.wim in Recovery folder and by using Dism.exe of Windows 7 Source Drive
Thanks to tsetya for publishing this easy way to create Windows 7 PE
http://www.boot-land.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=11801

7pe_x86.iso = Win7 Recovery ISO with Windows 7 GUI , and made from Winre.wim or boot.wim and without AIK
pe3_x86.iso = AIK Windows PE 3.0 with Windows 7 GUI , and made from winpe.wim by using AIK

Portable Windows 7 PE is a bootable ISO with size of about 200 MB
The Boot ISO files are made by adding to boot.wim about 700 files and some registry settings of Windows 7
Thanks to JFX for pioneering work on Win7PE_SE which is an important source of info for me
http://www.boot-land.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=10693

BOOT_IMG.exe can be used to install the ISO files as boot option in grub4dos Menu on HDD or USB
Moreover, Make_USB.exe of U_XP_SET package can be used to create bootable USB-stick with Portable Windows 7 PE
http://www.911cd.net/forums//index.php?showtopic=21883

Required for making pe3_x86.iso - AIK for Windows 7 - KB3AIK_EN.iso - Microsoft - Windows PE 3.0
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en
Dism.exe of AIK must be version 6.1.7600.16385 (earlier version 7000 gives Errors)

Known issue:
Previous use of WimFltr v.1 by e.g. imagex version 6.0.6001 (e.g. for making BB-7PE or W7PEX)
would result in reg load error when using Make_PE3 programs, but the program will detect and STOP before building 7 PE
It means that when Make_PE3 has mounted boot.wim with Dism, that reg load of PE registry would fail.
Solution: simply Reboot before using Make_PE3 programs to STOP WimFltr v.1

Portable 7 PE x86 has 4 Versions differing in size and functionality:
- MIN and BS Explorer version are booting fast and meant for PC repair purpose (Device and Disk Management available)
- Explorer version has Internet Explorer 8 and Themes and is meant for general purpose
- Media version has Windows Media Player and DirectX and is meant for MultiMedia purpose

Download - Make-PE3

It is required to extract Make_PE3.exe to the root of your drive

- Download VLC Media Player for PStart menu from
http://portableapps.com/apps/music_video/vlc_portable
Run VLCPortable_1.1.4.paf.exe
Browse to your \Make_PE3\MULTI\PStart\Progs folder
Install in your \Make_PE3\MULTI\PStart\Progs\VLCPortable folder

Copy PStart folder and wallpaper.jpg and drv folder with drivers as normal from Make_PE3\MULTI to root of HDD or USB boot drive.

Make_PE3_plugins
Adding Programs before building the 7 PE ISO - The easiest way is to make use of plugins for Make_PE3 package.

The Make_PE3_plugins.exe are selfextracting packages with addons, and containing files, registry and drivers for apps,
and which contain Start Menu and Desktop icons and have similar folder structure as in Make_PE3 and as in 7 PE and Windows 7.
Registry exported from Windows 7 or 7 PE can be used as reg files in the plugins, so that they can be made easily.
The Export registry must be made suitable for import in the from PE3 loaded SYSTEM SOFTWARE and DEFAULT hive and have keys like

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\PE3-SYSTEM\..........
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\PE3-SOFTWARE\..........
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\PE3-USER\..........

In this way we can share and exchange easily plugins packages with addons.
As exemple you may download Make_PE3_plugins.exe for adding imaging software to Make_PE3 folder to build Portable 7 PE
Run and Extract Make_PE3_plugins.exe in the same way as you did for Make_PE3.exe

Download Example for plugins - Make_PE3_plugins

Get WAIK Tools w/o downloading the huge ISO's

Most of us don't really need/use the WAIK to build our custom WinPE's.

So there were always a problem to get the few tools like wimgapi, imagex or the WIM filter drivers.

Attempts were made to use httpdisk to download files from inside the WAIK iso,
but it was not a good solution as you still need to load hundreds of MB and it requires to install an unsigned driver.
You even had to set your x64 Windows in testmode ...

But now we came with a good solution:

Our tool uses cURL winhttp functions provided by Homes32 to download only the needed bytes for the hugh WAIK ISO's.
There is no need for admin rights and you only need to download 4-6 MB per choosen WAIK.

Windows 7 PE drivers?

$

Hello! I have built a few Windows 7 PE images to use for maintenance reasons on legally licensed versions of Windows. I do things like run MyDefrag to defragment things which cannot be defragmented while Windows is running, such as registry files or pagefiles. Also things like resetting passwords on systems which are not on a domain. Make_PE3 has been great for this, but I do run into the occasional system which has unsupported hardware. To this end I have been trying to add drivers to the image to create a more compatible PE image. I downloaded the chipset and mas storage driver-packs, as well a** all three video and the audio, LAN, and WLAN packs from driverpacks.net as noted in the text files. However, if I place them all into the "PE3_mod/WIN7_drivers/x86" folder, the system hangs at "Windows is loading files" when booting the image on a real system or in VirtualBox.

So, how do I do this? Is it possible to do chipset and mass storage with dism, and have the others load during PE startup? I basically would like to have an image I can do maintenance with on licensed systems. I am trying to do this via the media option so I may test audio on systems where it does not work in the system which is installed. Is this possible? I did this with Windows XP. In fact I have an XP image on USB and CD which has loads of chipset, audio, video (even nVidia and ATI), and LAN support. However, this is aging and since most of our clients use 7, we would like to do this with 7, if possible.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

Windows PE I could use some help, please

Hello,

My name is Steve.

This is where I am.

My workstation (Technical computer) is running Win XP.

My target (Test machine) is an old AMD machine.  With an IDE based CD Rom drive and 1Gb memory..

I downloaded the MS WAIK tool kit.

After several days of playing around, I finally have a PE CD boot image built.

The image loads on the test machine correctly.

Now I need to optimize the image to make room in ram for my application.  (BOINC.exe).

1) I tried add the /Enable-profiling to DISM.

Then re-building the image, I got the warning about not using profiling on earlier OS.

I discovered that the error could be bypasses by adding a ssshhh.dll from a windows 8 computer.

     Now the build completes.

2) When the image loads on the Test computer, every thing runs file.

But then I try to create the profile, it get an error:

           error 0x80070004  or  error 0x80070057

I have no idea that these error are telling me!

Any help would be appreciated.

Setting IP config in Win PE3.1

I have a winPE 3.1 image that loads from CD of PXE.  My desired application, BOINC, runs well.  However now I would like to network 10-20 PE3.1 computers onto a sub-network.  This network will be tied to a XP computer that will store the images and provide interface to the WWW.  In this server I will use ccproxy.

However, I am having trouble setting up the PE to interface with the server ccproxy.

So far the following lines do not work.

netsh int IP set address name="local area connection" static 20.0.0.5 255.255.255.0 20.0.0.1

netsh interface ip set dns name="Local Area Connection" static 216.144.187.199

ipconfig /all

pause

:LOOP
ping www.google.com
goto :LOOP

Using this test, it appears the DNS is not working yet.  ( I have ccproxy set up for DNS and HTTP services)

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Network connections now finally works. No need penetwork anymore but will be in it because it is usefull for settings and installing network drivers. Wim size 316mb and i can work with 512mb ram if you dont want to use services. Will have all windows services but some of them will be disabled. It have %80 of windows 7 in it. This winpe wim has 64mb stratch size that is more hten microsoft default 32mb. So if you decrease it to default it will use 32mb less memory. Good part of this wim is it is serviceable as winpe yet with SIM. It has latest ati and nvdia graphics drivers in it and it gets wim size bigger. I didnt add extra files to winsxs. It has only files from winpe.wim (maybe i should add some)

X99 no USB in PE3?

$

I have a problem here. I am making a 32bit PE3 (Windows 7 Pro OEM as source) and it works on EVERY system I use it on, except one. The system has an ASRock X99 Extreme4 board in it along with 32GB of RAM and a six-core i7 with HT, making for twelve logical processors. I get to the desktop, but no mouse or keyboard. Same happens if I use a PS/2 keyboard. The mouse and keyboard are in 2.0 ports, NOT the blue 3.x ports. The mouse and keyboard ARE lit up, indicating power. But no mouse cursor on-screen and typing does nothing. I HAVE integrated the 32bit drivers for the board into the boot.wim image. Help?

WinPE 3.0 (PXE) - Stuck at Windows is loading files... screen

$

I have a PXE setup that I want to be able to support UEFI.

So far I have been able to make it boot, but I'm stuck at the screen "Windows is loading files..." - it reaches 100% but never goes further. Even 1-2 hours goes by and nothing still happens. (no errors either)

I have downloaded Windows AIK and the supplement tools (SP1) - where the 64bit version of WinPE has support for UEFI. (winload.efi)

My TFTP looks like this:

\bootx64.efi

\bootmgr.exe

\boot\boot.sdi

\boot\boot.wim <-- 64bit WinPE

\EFI\Microsoft\Boot\BCD

I know that WinPE 3.0 is old, but I dont have the time to upgrade our deployment solution as of right now.

Hope someone can help me with this. :)

Thanks in advance!

Flashing BIOS from WinPE

$

Hi, guys, I need some help.

I am trying to resurrect an old PC, an Acer Aspire 5315. It used to run Vista, but that's been wiped out now, and it didn't come with installation disks.

I need to flash the BIOS, so I got it from the Acer site. It's an .EXE file. I tried FreeDOS, but it refused to run "in DOS mode". So I have created a WINPE disk. It boots into a command line, but if I run the .EXE file I got from the Acer site, it fails silently. I just get the prompt back, no windows pop up and the BIOS remains in its old version.

A "VER" in the command line shows "Microsoft Windows [Version 6.2.9200]".

Any ideas? Do I have to install a full-fledged Windows just to run this file? I plan to install Linux in it after flashing the BIOS... Any legal way to run Windows just for a couple minutes?

Adding the VBox Guest Additions drivers to WinPE..?

$

0

Helooo MSFN, it's been a long time. Has anyone had success adding any of the individual VBox Guest Additions drivers to WinPE..? It would make test builds much easier to work with in VBox.

The driver I'm most interested in adding is the one that allows seamless integration of the mouse pointer with the guest window, so I don't have to keep manually uncapturing it. Also, the one that facilitates automatic desktop stretching/resizing would be nice too, but it's not essential, and it seems that function is based in VboxTray.exe rather than a driver file anyways. ~Thanks.

Hi all,

I have to install driver in windows 10 Operating System through WinPE(WinPE-10).I have windows 10 os in laptop.I have booted WinPE from USB device.I have tried drvload [inf-path],this will install the driver in WinPE environment only. But my intention is to run my driver files in WinPE environment and that driver should be instalIed in windows 10.That is drivers should be install in windows 10 not in winPE.So if i open windows 10,all driver files should be available there and my device also have to work properly.

Please anyone text me the solution.

Thanks in advance.

Accessing Micro SD Card When Running WinPE

Hi, hoping someone can help.

I have a WinPE USB drive that I boot various devices from in order to deploy bespoke images (All Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit) .. I would like to have the bespoke image contained onto a 32GB MicroSD Card .. however, on all but 2 of the 5 different devices I want to do this for WinPE does not pick up the SD Card. ie running DISKPART - LIST DISK shows only the main HD and the USB, on one of the other devices I can force load the Realtek driver using DRVLOAD.EXE, I was hoping to do the same with the other devices .. but none of the others use the Realtek driver, they all use the standard Microsoft Driver and I have no idea what .INF file to use in conjunction with DRVLOAD in order to force load the driver and gain access to the SD Card.

WinPE 10 64 bit Net use reports wrong password on Second network share

I am not new Winpe been using it since 2.0.

I have created a WinPE 10 Version 1151 64 bit. I have update the drivers of NICs.

I work in a large enterprise environment with many different models of laptops. On some models it maps both shares without any issues on other models it will not map the second share.

I use the net command to map two network shares in the startnet.cmd file. The shares are on two different servers. The first share maps with out any issue. The second share reports wrong password. BUT this only happens on some computers not ALL.

I have several Lenovo Yoga 260s and it works fine. But when trying use it on  Lenovo T460s it fails to map second network share.

Here are the two commands:

net use Y: \\10.xx.xx.16\public /user:10.xx.xx.16\user password

net use Z: \\10.xx.xx.14\imageshare /user:10.xx.xx.14\user password

The smallest possible size of boot.sdi

$

0

I've been annoyed by the +3Mb size of the supplied boot.sdi that is shipped with nt6.x. It is really a size overkill! My tweaked boot.sdi is now at 960 kb, or 983 040 bytes to be exact. The boot.sdi is basically an sdi with just a tiny ntfs partition image injected and a marker for the "mysterious" wim blob at the very end. Download at; http://www.mediafire.com/file/t0zzwmwwylb/boot_sdi.zip

If anyone can reduce the size further, I would be happy to inspect the file.

Why on earth did MS make it so big? Only answer can be that they are lazy and don't care about a few MB of wasted space

Joakim

Updated version 300 kB; http://mft2csv.googlecode.com/files/boot_sdi_300.zip

Details of sectors inside the latest partition image;

$Boot 0
$MFT 1-65

$LogFile 74-586
$MFTMirr 136-143
$UpCase 136
$Secure:$SDS 137-392
$Bitmap 138
$AttrDef 139-143

The rest of the systemfiles are fully contained within $MFT

The reorganization of the ntfs metafiles was done to make it easier for those that want to decode and understand it.

Hi

I am trying to get wireless working in PE created from Windows 10 1709

I have followed several articles on this site and others including http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/162453-winpe-40-enable-wireless-support/

But I cannot get it working - for some reason wlansvc won't start and I get

"system error 1075 has occurred - The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion"

Has anyone managed to get it working who could give me some pointers

Many thanks
